Timothy Bradley, trying to set himself up for big-name fights, stopped veteran Joel Casamayor in the eighth round Saturday night to remain unbeaten in 28 bouts.
Bradley put Casamayor down in the fifth and sixth rounds and was dominating the fight when Casamayor went down again in the eighth. He got to his feet, but his corner waved the fight to a close.
Bradley, mentioned as a possible future opponent for Manny Pacquiao, was in charge from the opening bell against the 40-year-old Casamayor. Not known as a big puncher, Bradley scored his 12th stoppage in running his record to 28-0. Casamayor fell to 38-6-1.
Bradley kept a version of the junior welterweight title with the win on the Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez undercard.
''I was a little rusty. I was rushing my punches early,'' Bradley said. ''It was a good fight, I wasn't tired, I could go 100 rounds.''
In another fight, Mike Alvarado rallied from behind in the final round to stop Breidis Prescott of Colombia in their 140-pound fight.
Alvarad, of Denver, remained unbeaten in 32 fights, but it wasn't easy. His face was bloodied early and he took punishment from Prescott through middle rounds before finally turning it around with a pair of uppercuts that put Prescott down in the 10th round.
Prescott managed to get up, but Alvarado landed several more big shots before referee Jay Nady moved in to end the fight at 1:53 of the 10th round.
