News: Gilchrist signed a four-year contract with the Jets on Thursday night, ESPN.com's Rich Cimini reports.
Impact: The Jets' secondary revamp continues, as Gilchrist will join a team that had already added cornerbacks Darrelle Revis, Antonio Cromartie, and Buster Skrine to its free-agent haul. The 26-year-old Gilchrist, who has started all 16 games for the Chargers over the last two seasons, ranked second on the team in tackles (76) in 2014, while forcing two fumbles and picking off a pass. The Jets figure to have Gilchrist earmarked for one of the starting jobs at safety, in tandem with 2014 first-round selection Calvin Pryor.

News: A person familiar with the deal says the New York Jets and Gilchrist have agreed to terms on a four-year contract.
Impact: Gilchrist spent his first four NFL seasons with the San Diego Chargers after being a second-round draft pick out of Clemson in 2011. Gilchrist has five interceptions, three sacks and three forced fumbles in his career. He has started every game the last two seasons for the Chargers, and is the latest addition to a revamped Jets secondary. New York signed cornerbacks Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie to big deals in the last two days.
