WWE TLC 2016: 3 Reasons Becky Lynch Should Defeat Alexa Bliss

Becky Lynch looks to continue her reign as the Inaugural SmackDown Women’s Champion this Sunday at TLC.
This Sunday, the Irish Lass Kicker, Becky Lynch defends the SmackDown Women’s Title against Alexa Bliss in a Tables Match. Lynch successfully retained her title against Bliss on the November 8th Episode of Smackdown Live, but not without controversy. Lynch submitted Bliss with her patented Dis-Arm-Her. However, due to the positioning in the ring, the referee was not able to see Bliss’ foot on the bottom rope.
Following the controversial loss, Bliss went to the Smackdown Live GM, Daniel Bryan, to demand the title. Bryan refused Bliss’ proposal but did grant her a rematch at TLC. This match was originally scheduled as a regular one-on-one single match until this past week of SmackDown Live. Lynch and Bliss had a contract signing to kick off the show that ended up escalating and ending with Lynch going through a table.
Later in the show, Lynch was interviewed backstage by Renee Young. She informed Lynch that Bliss had challenged her to a tables match. Lynch accepted and the match was later made official by Daniel Bryan. This match will be the second women’s tables match in WWE pay-per-view history and the first since 2010. Lynch won the Inaugural SmackDown Women’s Championship in September at the SmackDown exclusive Backlash pay-per-view. While Bliss would be a good and worthy heel champion, Becky Lynch should retain her title this Sunday at TLC.

3. A Longer Reign from Lynch Would Help legitimize the Title
The SmackDown Women’s Championship was created out of necessity following the WWE Brand Extension Draft. When the then WWE Women’s Champion, Charlotte, was drafted by the Raw brand the SmackDown Live women’s division was left without a prize to fight for. One of the cons of creating a new title is the fact that, most of the time, there is no championship lineage.
However, while lineage does help, it doesn’t make or break a title. The superstar makes the title not the other way around. This is why it is important for the inaugural champion, Becky Lynch to had a long and successful title reign. Lynch is more than capable to have a long string of good matching that would help give this title more and more meaning with each title defense.
Also, Lynch is arguably the strongest pound for pound women in WWE, with Charlotte being the only other argument, and should probably be booked that way. Lynch being booked as an unbeatable champion would make her eventual loss mean that much more.

2. Becky Lynch is Capable of Elevating the SmackDown Women’s Division
The SmackDown Live women’s division ranges from WWE veterans to new faces. Becky Lynch is somewhat the perfect combination of both. While she is still fairly new to the WWE Universe she has had many years of experience before her time here. Going through the division you can see a variety of styles, experience, etc. Starting with Carmella, one of the greener female superstars, you have someone who has managerial experience in NXT with Enzo Amore and Big Cass. On top of this experience, we have also seen her do good work as a face and heel.
Next, we go to Natalya. Natalya has long time been seen the veteran of the women’s division. However, she has seemed to be the odd one out more times than not and the same can be said for Naomi, arguably one of the most underutilized women on the roster. This brings us to the challenger, Alexa Bliss. Bliss may literally be the best heel on the entire SmackDown roster. Eva Marie is very green and is without a doubt one of the most hated women in WWE. Finally, we have Nikki Bella, while she is a polarizing figure she is an established WWE superstar and a former Diva’s Champion.
Becky Lynch has the ability to feud with each and every one of these women and elevate them and herself in the process.

1. The Eventual Heel Turn
Becky Lynch is one of the biggest fan favorites in WWE today and one could only imagine how the crowd reacts when she turns heel. While this could very well be down the line, a Lynch heel turn has been subtly been teased in recent episodes of SmackDown. As noted, Lynch retained her title by submission while Alexa’s foot was on the bottom rope. While this alone doesn’t necessarily tease a heel turn there are other aspects that support it.
There have been slow and subtle changes to Lynch’s attitude. Becky’s promos in recent week have definitely felt more like she was trying to talk down to Alexa whereas before she was more focused on proving she’s a deserving champion. This brings us to this previous week’s episode of SmackDown Live. Much like most in-ring contract signings in WWE, this one ended with a physical altercation. However, this time, Lynch threw the first punch seemingly unprovoked. In a backstage interview later that night, Lynch said she would get her revenge on Alexa this Sunday at TLC even though it was her that started the altercation.
Back to the bigger picture. A heel turn from Lynch would open possible feud with the entirety of the SmackDown women’s division. Will WWE hand the reigns to the up and coming Bliss? Or will the Irish Lass Kicker remain champion? Tune in Sunday to TLC at 8pm ET to find out.
