WWE Survivor Series 2016: 5 Reasons Brock Lesnar Should Beat Goldberg

Fantasy warfare will come to life at WWE Survivor Series, but Brock Lesnar is the one who should come out on top.
WWE Survivor Series wil feature two of the most iconic superstars in WWE history clashing for just the second time ever. With their first meeting at WrestleMania XX being a complete and utter failure, this match will hopefully compensate for that disappointing display 13 years ago. And in all likelihood, whether you’re excited about the 49-year-old Goldberg returning or not, it will.
Their last meeting faltered mainly because both men were on their way out of the company. Now, although Brock Lesnar will never be one of the most passionate performers on the roster, he and Goldberg are both in much different situations than they were in 2004. Lesnar is not currently pursuing any outside ventures and Goldberg is motivated by a desire to perform in front of his son for the first time. Basically, they’re both committed to WWE right now, and they’re likely committed to making up for their atrocious first meeting.
While the match will certainly surpass their first encounter thanks to a higher level of focus and commitment from both men, it will only be truly successful if the right man is standing tall at the end of the night. Here are five reasons why Brock Lesnar is that man.

5. This is a Farewell Tour for Goldberg; He Doesn’t Need a Win
In Goldberg’s return promo, he said the thing he missed the most was being a superhero to kids all over the world. That’s admirable, especially considering the man he’ll be across the ring from on November 20th doesn’t really care about anybody, particularly fans. But the point here is Goldberg came back so he could perform in front of his son. He wanted one last ride in WWE so his son could see what his father did for so many years to be one of the icons in the world of professional wrestling. If all he wants to do is show his son what he used to be, he just needs to perform like a beast and give it everything he has. He does not need to win.
As we all know, Brock Lesnar is in relatively few matches these days. He’ll show up every few months, start a feud with somebody, and then take off again. And when he is in matches, they aren’t the most competitive things in the world. Sure his match with Dean Ambrose wasn’t a squash, but it also left a lot to be desired. And his most recent match with Randy Orton had an ending that left many to wonder why it happened to begin with.
All it will take for this to be worthwhile for Goldberg is him putting up a decent fight. If he shows that he has something left in the tank and, quality-wise, makes up for his and Lesnar’s snoozefest from Mania 20, it doesn’t matter if he wins or not. This is about Goldberg having one last ride in WWE for himself, his family, and the fans. A victory does not need to accompany it.

4. Lesnar Can’t Go 0-2 Against Goldberg
Brock Lesnar has overcome pretty much everything there is to overcome in WWE. He’s a multi-time world champion, he dominated John Cena like no man ever had before him, and he notoriously ended the Undertaker’s streak. But the one thing, or man, he has not overcome is the man he’ll face at Survivor Series, Goldberg. Lesnar needs to put an end to that once and for all and defeat the WCW legend, cementing his status as the most dominant WWE superstar in history.
WWE has done everything it can to make Lesnar seem like an unbeatable monster over the past few years. That’s why there’s a good chance Goldberg was brought back for the sole reason of having him to lose to Lesnar to even the score between the two. Everyone knew this was the one blemish on Lesnar’s record. After all, he’s beaten basically everyone else he’s crossed paths with. Losing to Goldberg for a second time is simply not an option.
Goldberg is likely gone after this match whether he wins or loses. That would mean Lesnar has no chance of redeeming himself and would have this hanging over his head for the rest of his career. WWE wants Lesnar to be a conquerer, so having one guy that he simply can’t beat wouldn’t make any sense. Lesnar needs to come out on top on Sunday to exorcise these demons and prove that no one, not even Goldberg, can have a winning record against the Beast Incarnate.

3. Lesnar Needs Momentum Heading Into WrestleMania
Brock Lesnar is not a great wrestler and he is not a great talker. What he is, however, is an attraction. His successful UFC career has established him as WWE’s most legitimate fighter, turning any match he’s in into a big deal. If people can’t beat him in UFC, how are they supposed to do so in WWE? Thus, you tune in to see if anyone can. If Goldberg beats Lesnar at Survivor Series, this mystique is lost.
Make no mistake, Lesnar has lost in WWE before. But ever since breaking the Undertaker’s streak at WrestleMania 30, Lesnar has not lost a singles match clean, and honestly may never do so again. His value to WWE is his aura of being unbeatable. Losing to Goldberg would take this away, and the timing couldn’t be worse.
This match at Survivor Series may well be Lesnar’s last appearance until the buildup to WrestleMania 33. If he takes a loss here, goes on another one of his vacations, and then comes back, it will be a lot less interesting than if he is coming off yet another victory. And for WrestleMania drawing purposes, there needs to be hype surrounding his return.
Lesnar’s breaks are usually accepted because he beats whoever he faces when he does show up. It’s sort of an “I’ll come back when there’s a challenge worth my time” dynamic. If he loses and then leaves, he’ll look ridiculous, and his subsequent opponent would have no reason to be afraid of him. Remember how much hype there used to be around Ronda Rousey? Remember how it was basically all lost when Rousey lost to Holly Holm and then fell off the face of the earth? Yeah. That.

2. The Rub of Beating Lesnar Should Go to Someone Who Can Use it
I just mentioned that there’s a real chance Brock Lesnar never loses another singles match clean. While this is true, it’s not a guarantee. What is a guarantee, however, is that if someone does eventually beat Lesnar clean, it will likely be someone who deserves that spot and will benefit greatly from it. Therefore, if Lesnar is destined to lose a singles match, it should not be to somebody who is almost guaranteed to leave the company afterward.
Lesnar losing to Goldberg would be a monumental waste. We’ve been over the fact that Goldberg is old and doesn’t need this win because he’s on his way out. What we haven’t been over is how it would take away an opportunity for a rising star to get a potential career-making victory. Sure, even if Goldberg beats Lesnar on Sunday, beating Lesnar is still a feat. But it’s not nearly as big of a deal as being the first one to knock him off in several years. If that honor went to Goldberg it would be a shame.
That honor should eventually go to someone like Bray Wyatt. Wyatt is in desperate need of something to put him truly on the map, and a win over Lesnar, whom he has teased a feud with in the past, would do exactly that. And if not Wyatt, some other rising/semi-established star that could use the win should get it. Just give to somebody who can actually benefit from the victory, not someone like Goldberg who already holds a victory over the Beast and is likely re-retiring following Survivor Series.

1. Lesnar is More Valuable to WWE Than Goldberg
This is sort of the overarching theme of all the other reasons on this list, but very simply, a Goldberg victory does absolutely nothing to help WWE in the long term. Of course they want to be on good terms with Goldberg, so it’s not like they’re going to disrespect him just because he’s less valuable to them. But this does mean they’re probably going to have him lose in order to keep their biggest attraction looking strong.
Lesnar losing to Goldberg would diminish their biggest attraction. Although Goldberg is historically a huge threat in the ring, he hasn’t stepped into said ring in over 10 years. How bad would it look if Lesnar were to lose to someone like that despite him dominating any and all competition over the past few years? It would make him look like a bit of a joke.
WWE is going to milk Lesnar for all he is worth. They are not going to throw his superhuman aura away just to give Goldberg a nice little victory on his way out. They’ve always done what they feel is best for business, just as we saw when Lesnar defeated the Undertaker. Undertaker’s streak was extremely valuable to the in terms of attraction come WrestleMania-time, but they felt they could pass that level of attraction off to Lesnar, and they did so effectively.
Lesnar must not lose to Goldberg at Survivor Series unless WWE wants their biggest attraction diminished while getting nothing in return.
