Zack Ryder suffered a heartbreaking and severe injury last week on SmackDown in a match that earned him a title shot, and he may be out of action until the second half of 2017 as a result.
Ryder eliminated Konnor of The Ascension to win a Battle Royale to become the No. 1 contenders for the Wyatt Family's tag titles after rupturing his patellar tendon during the match. Ryder was in obvious pain after he flipped over the top rope, and Mauro Ranallo confirmed on commentary Tuesday that Ryder's kneecap popped out of place.

Ryder underwent surgery soon after, and he said on Twitter that doctors aren't entirely sure of the timetable for his return.
