WWE Clash of Champions 2016: 3 Surprises We'd Like to See

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 2:37 p.m. ET

A look at possible surprises we would love to see during WWE Clash of Champions.

Being WWE Raw’s first exclusive PPV after the draft, Clash of Champions is sure to cause controversy. The bout will feature a WWE Universal Title Match between Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins as the main event. The tag team titles and the Women’s title will be on the line as well. The main event will have its fair share of controversy regardless of the outcome. Moreover, Triple H’s lingering presence adds another layer to this story.

If Rollins wins, fans will be angry that Kevin Owens’ title reign was so short. This also hurts the credibility of the newly introduced title. If Owens wins, then what becomes of Rollins? Who will step up to challenge the champ next? That’s if it even gets determined before the show ends on Sunday night.

An interference from Triple H to save K.O and to advance his feud with Rollins seems probable. So is K.O interfering in Sami Zayn’s match against Y2J. One can also expect Dana Brooke somehow costing the title for Charlotte. Here is a look at three of the bigger surprises we would like to see unveiled come September 25.

3. Goldberg Returns to WWE

A few months back, nobody would have expected this news. However, the news of Goldberg appearing as pre-order exclusive for WWE 2K17 sent the fans into a state of frenzy. Goldberg himself has been stated to be open to the idea of a return. The 49-year-oldd is still in good shape and could have enough gas in his tank for one last run with the WWE. Moreover, another showdown with Lesnar in this year’s Wrestlemania will only be a form of poetic justice.

Goldberg return set fire to the rumours that the former WWE Heavyweight champion might show up at COC. However, according to 411 Mania, Goldberg is set to appear at Indianapolis on the day of COC. If there is one thing we can be sure of, it’s that anything can happen in the WWE.

If Goldberg indeed make his return to WWE, the big question is where does he go from there? Does he straight away start to pursue the Universal Championship or goes after Lesnar? Even more intriguing will be how WWE books his return if it is indeed going to happen.

2. The Great One Returns with a Surprise Appearance

The Rock is known to surprise the WWE universe by showing up out of the blue. Fans would remember him confronting Rusev a couple of years back. Another appearance from the Brahma Bull would add genuine credibility to RAW’s first PPV following the draft. Although nothing has been confirmed as of now, rumors of his return are plenty.

The latest rumor was about The Rock wanting to wrestle the Beast Brock Lesnar. That seems like a great matchup for next year’s Wrestlemania. Perhaps the company could set the wheel for this in motion at COC. If Rock would come out and immediately call out Lesnar or Paul Heyman, it will surely be a surprise we would love to see.

Paul Heyman has already taunted The Rock. Quoting from Inquisitr:

“Notice how The Rock picks fights with Bray Wyatt, or fights with Rusev and John Cena? Notice how The Rock doesn’t pick a fight with Brock Lesnar? Is Brock Lesnar ready for The Rock? Is The Rock ready for Brock?”

Will the Great One come out to address this situation that could be a big match for Wrestlemania 33?

1. Brock Lesnar Shows Up

It seems like everybody wants to fight Brock Lesnar to prove their worth. But what does The Beast have in his mind? After fending off the Viper Randy Orton, Brock is looking for a new challenge to conquer. Does the Beast has his eyes set on the Universal Title? It is not hard to imagine Lesnar showing up at Clash of Champions. The Beast can run rampant during the main event and take out both Owens and Rollins towards the end of the match.

This way, WWE can protect both competitors without any damage or controversy. A number of storyline possibilities can open from this one incident. The following night, RAW can witness Brock going on a rampage through the entire roster until he gets his title match. Foley can then book a triple threat for the next PPV. perhaps Triple H shows up then to screw Rollins yet again and can ignite a full-on feud from there. Lesnar can then collide with Kevin Owens for RAW’s top title.

What would make your list of surprises that might hit us come September 25?
