Roman Reigns vs. Kevin Owens Announced for WWE Roadblock 2016

Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens are going to be facing off for the WWE Universal Championship, but the announcement got made in an odd way.

Earlier Friday, we noted a rumor of Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship being planned. It would potentially take place at the December 18 Roadblock pay-per-view. This comes after Raw Talk, which saw Reigns cut a promo on wanting to go for this belt.

After Monday’s episode of Raw, we saw Owens and Reigns get put on the same Survivor Series team, but nothing got mentioned about the Universal Title. However, it seems these two have a match planned.

The PGG Paints Arena, the site of Roadblock, announced Reigns vs. Owens for the title at the show. It should be noted they’re calling the show “Roadblock: End of the Line”. F4WOnline.com noted that Owens vs. Seth Rollins vs. Chris Jericho had been planned before the Reigns feud, but this developing the way it has was not expected.

WWE hasn’t confirmed this, but the arena announcing the match should be an indication that it will happen. It’s similar to the Wednesday announcement of Undertaker returning to WWE before the company could make this official.

To have the PPG Paints Arena set the Roadblock main event before WWE is certainly a surprise. Not only that, but there are still two PPVs, Survivor Series and SmackDown’s TLC, to take place. The former will be seen on Sunday, November 20. There hasn’t been any build toward this match besides Reigns’ promo, so things have obviously developed quickly.

With Raw happening on Monday, November 7, it’s possible we get the Reigns vs. Owens announcement here. It’s still early, but if this venue already set this match, then WWE could follow suit shortly after.
