John Cena could be missing a critical WWE pay-per-view on the Road to WrestleMania 33.

On Monday, we noted how John Cena’s WWE status for 2017 had been in question with all the outside media projects he’s taking. This includes taking on a new movie role in, “The Pact” as one of the film’s stars. It’s unknown when he will be needed for it, but this advertising for an upcoming WWE pay-per-view should give a decent idea of where things are going.

We recently noted how the WWE Elimination Chamber PPV would be returning in February at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, AZ. This would be SmackDown’s first exclusive show of 2017 after finishing up with TLC on Sunday. It will take place on Sunday, February 12 and tickets are set to go on sale on Friday, December 16.

Well, the advertising for this show currently does not include Cena’s presence. This would come after he missed Survivor Series and TLC. The Face That Kind of Still Runs the Place is on the advertisements for the Royal Rumble PPV in January.

Cena not being around for a crucial PPV, which happens to be SmackDown’s final one before WrestleMania 33, is interesting. This could be when he’s filming “The Pact” or he may have other commitments set for that weekend. That means if the WWE World Championship or No. 1 Contender’s match (likely in the Elimination Chamber) for the belt takes place, it would not be with him around. Things could always change, but it’s early information to take note of.

If the 15-time world champion isn’t showing up in February, then it could indicate how his Royal Rumble will go down. He may not get the win to receive that WrestleMania 33 title match that some fans have speculated on, unless there are different plans for what WWE would do leading to him going for a belt at the Show of Shows. It all makes what John Cena does over the next few months intriguing as the career he once knocked The Rock for having is now becoming his own.
