You might know John Cena as the face of WWE, but that’s not all on his agenda. It appears Cena is giving the big screen the full “Attitude Adjustment.”
This is turning out to be a pretty crazy year. Taylor Swift might be going hip-hop, the Dallas Cowboys are 10-1, and John Cena has landed the role of a lifetime.
Yes, that John Cena. The guy who could eat you. Don’t let his intimidating looks fool you though, as Cena’s playful humor has become more well known the last couple of years. You of course remember his performance as Amy Schumer’s boyfriend in Trainwreck last year, where he was left brokenhearted. Now it looks like Cena is primed for another big comedy role.
According to Variety, Cena is signed on for a leading role in the new movie The Pact, which will also star Leslie Mann (This is 40, The Other Woman) and Ike Barinholtz (The Mindy Project, Sisters). Besides that being an awesome comedic trio, get this: The three will be playing parents who have found out through the grapevine that their daughters made a pact to lose their virginities on prom night, and naturally will try to stop such shenanigans.
Talk about perfection. Even without seeing any previews there’s so many ways for this movie to succeed. Cena can be the super scary over protective dad, or the oblivious goofy dad, the nerdy dad, the dad who’s never around, or really any form of dad. This plot is set for pure comedic gold. On top of that, it will be super exciting to see him act alongside Barinholtz after they both worked on the movie Sisters together. Oh, and did I forget to mention the production team will include Point Grey’s Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver? So yeah. Funny people are all over this thing.
The Pact will be Kay Cannon’s directorial debut, who you might know as the writer of both Pitch Perfect films.
