5 things the Charlotte vs Sasha Banks Hell in a Cell match needs

Sasha Banks and Charlotte will make history by being the first women to main event a WWE pay-per-view when they battle for the WWE Women’s Championship at Hell In A Cell.
October 30 will be a special night in the long and storied history of WWE as RAW women’s champion Sasha Banks will defend her title against two-time former champ, Charlotte. Now, the rivalry itself is nothing new as the two have been battling over the title for a while now, including a recent main event spot on RAW , which is something that two women hadn’t done since Trish Stratus battled Lita in the final match of the night nearly a dozen years ago in December 2004.
But things have been taken up a notch as it was recently announced by RAW general manager Mick Foley that Sasha and Charlotte will be main-eventing the Hell In A Cell event the night before Halloween, marking the first time in history that two women will close out a main roster WWE pay-per-view event.
Sasha Banks is no stranger to headlining a pay-per-view as she and Bayley closed out an NXT Takeover event last fall but this is a completely different animal. If you think about how many pay-per-view events have taken place in the history of this company and also factor in how many great women have come through WWE and never had the opportunity to do what Sasha and Charlotte are about to do on Sunday, then you can understand why this is such a big deal.
And with this match being such a big deal, here are five things that need to happen to make this match that much more special.
5. No interference or swerve
I think the headline says it all but there only needs to be a handful of people inside the Hell In A Cell structure come Sunday night: a cameraman or two, a referee and Sasha Banks and Charlotte. That’s it. Dana Brooke doesn’t need to be there. Bayley doesn’t need to be there. Absolutely no other wrestler needs to be involved in this match. Period.
It can’t be stated enough how groundbreaking this match is and it does not need to be marred with any outside interference from anyone. For the past year, Charlotte and Sasha Banks have proven time and time again that they can perform on the big stage and with this match being the biggest stage in women’s wrestling history, this match needs to be decided between the two of them and that’s it. And yes, I’ll say it again. Period.
The wrestling world can be fun with a good swerve here and there but this match doesn’t need any of that. Nobody needs to run down to the ring to help. There doesn’t need to be a crazy heel turn or anything like that for this match to be successful. Charlotte and Sasha are capable enough of getting through this match on their own and they deserve to have this big stage all to themselves.

4. Needs to be violent
Now, the internet wrestling community might look at this headline and immediately think that I’m saying that there needs to be blood involved in this match but what we have to remember is that the days of blading are long gone. With that being said, if it happens naturally then I’m all for it and what that would mean is that Sasha and Charlotte have to actually use the Hell In A Cell structure for this match to be successful….and I mean really use it.
We can’t expect this match to be Mick Foley vs The Undertaker from King of the Ring in 1998, which is easily the most popular Hell In A Cell match in history (not the best but certainly the most popular), but Sasha and Charlotte have to make this a violent match for viewers to think that it was worthy of being the main event. It would be amazing to see these two climb the cage at some point and fight on the top but even that might not be necessary if they can use the cell to really get after one another. I know these two can wrestle quite well but a Hell In A Cell match is supposed to be a fight and that’s what needs to happen on Sunday. Use the cell. Use the stairs. Use whatever is under the ring to make this a brutal contest.
And again, if a little color happens naturally then so be it. Honestly, who doesn’t want to see Charlotte sport a crimson mask that her dad made so famous in his day.

3. Needs to go at least 30 minutes
Out of everything on this list, this one may actually be the most important. WWE is taking so many steps to stress the importance of this match and if they really want this to work and get over with the audience in the arena and the viewers on the WWE Network, Sasha and Charlotte need to be given the time to really make this work.
It’s not easy to go 30 minutes in a WWE ring but we already know that Sasha Banks can pull it off, as she did in the 30-minute Iron Man match with Bayley a year ago, and with Charlotte being arguably the most athletic woman on the WWE roster, I honestly don’t think that going 30 minutes would be a problem for her either.
Most Hell In A Cell matches are given ample time and with this match needing to be one of the most special matches in WWE history, things don’t need to change in that regard. While it’s billed as one of three main events on the card, this is easily the most important match on the card. Throw in the fact that it’s closing out the show and it’s obvious that this match needs to be given the time to shine and I think that half an hour would be the perfect amount of time for this match to be what it needs to be.

2. Needs to be the end of the rivalry
While this rivalry between Sasha Banks and Charlotte has been booked nearly to perfection, the Hell In A Cell match on Sunday needs to be the last match between the two for a while. The feud has lasted for months and it’s time for both women to move on. A steel cage match used to be known as the match that would end a feud anyway so this feeds right into that way of thinking.
Just look at what’s transpired between these two. They were both part of the epic Triple Threat at WrestleMania 32 and re-ignited their rivalry at WWE Battleground when Bayley joined Sasha to defeat Charlotte and Dana Brooke. Sasha would win her first championship the following night on RAW, leading to a rematch at SummerSlam where Charlotte would regain the title, next defending and retaining in a Triple Threat with Bayley and Sasha at Clash of Champions. Her title reign lasted eight days beyond that night before she lost it to Sasha on RAW, which leads us right into Hell In A Cell.
RAW has been criticized a bit for not spreading the wealth between the women as well as Smackdown! Live has been and this would be the perfect opportunity to correct that. Of course, the only way for this to happen would be for Sasha to retain the title because if she loses, she’s guaranteed a rematch that really doesn’t need to happen right now. Sasha wins and faces a new contender in the future. Charlotte loses and begins new feuds to put her back in the title picture down the road. Book it.

1. Has to be the match of the night
I think this one goes without saying but Charlotte vs Sasha Banks has to steal the show. I know that the last match of the night is supposed to be the match of the night but there’s obviously a lot of pressure on these two women to do just that.
As previously mentioned, there are two other main events booked for Sunday and both of them are also Hell In A Cell matches. And they’re both matches that have the potential to be outstanding. The rivalry between Roman Reigns and Rusev has been booked beautifully and comes to a head on Sunday and is bound to be an absolutely brutal and physical contest. Think how well Reigns’ match against Bray Wyatt went inside Hell In A Cell and that’s probably what we’re looking at.
In the WWE Universal Championship match, Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens have the potential to put on a classic if done correctly. There’s a bigger chance of interference in this match given what’s been going on with Chris Jericho in this storyline, but Rollins and Owens are easily two of the best talents on the RAW roster and will likely tear the house down.
That’s why everything outlined thus far is so important. The entire women’s division is counting on Sasha Banks and Charlotte putting on the best match of the night and perhaps the best match in women’s division history. And if these two phenomenal athletes can put on a brutal match with no interference that goes about half an hour, I think they can put on a candidate for Match of the Year. And I, for one, certainly hope they do.
