3 Reasons Charlotte Should Win at WWE Clash of Champions 2016

WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte will defend her title against Bayley and Sasha Banks at Clash of Champions. Here’s why she should retain the gold.
Does anybody out there actually like Charlotte, whether she’s WWE Women’s Champion or not? It doesn’t matter because right now she’s the alpha female of Monday Night Raw, and at Clash of Champions, she defends her title against both Sasha Banks and Bayley.
Charlotte held the title for 113 days before losing it to Banks on Raw just after the brand split, but in surprise fashion she regained it mere weeks later at SummerSlam. Fans weren’t happy about that since Banks is arguably the most popular woman on either roster. After a double-pin occurred between Banks and Bayley, both women were entered into a Triple Threat match against Charlotte for the title at this weekend’s PPV, and undoubtedly fans would prefer anybody be champion other than who has the belt now.
Is Charlotte losing the title best for business, though? Unquestionably, the momentum seems to be behind either Banks or Bayley to come away with the big red belt. Charlotte’s current reign has seemed a little out-of-sorts and unfocused, perhaps because of the way she was suddenly made champion again. Add in the presence of her inept assistant Dana Brooke and the deck is definitely stacked against Charlotte staying on top.
Here are just three reasons why Charlotte should retain the title against Sasha Banks and Bayley at Clash of Champions 2016, which takes place September 25th live from Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.

3. Injuries
We all love Sasha Banks’ toughness and tenacity, but let’s be honest, she’s proven to be a little injury prone since coming to the main roster. Now that’s not her fault. She goes all out in the ring and that’s to her credit, but how is WWE expected to keep the title on someone who has shown an inability to stay healthy?
In fact, it was injury and the need to heal that cost Banks her first run with the title, putting the strap right back around Charlotte’s waist. That took her a month of recovery time, and during that hiatus we saw Bayley emerge into a top superstar. But before that she’s suffered from an MCl injury that took her out of action for weeks until she returned right around WrestleMania. After that, she was on the shelf again recovering from various nagging injuries, emerging just prior to SummerSlam.
Bayley hasn’t had the same number of issues as Banks, but put against the consistency shown by Charlotte it isn’t even close, and there are other reasons why now’s not the right time for the hugger. As Raw tries to re-establish their Women’s Division following the brand split, the champion needs to be someone who is physically capable of carrying the gold and wrestling week-in and week-out. That ability was something Charlotte’s father, the “Nature Boy” Ric Flair often preached about, and it’s clearly been passed on to his daughter.

2. Lack of Quality Heels
While both the Raw and Smackdown rosters are strong in different ways, one area that Raw loses out is in the quality of its heels. Right now there is only one legit heel worth paying attention to on the red brand, and in case you couldn’t figure it out that would be Charlotte.
It’s a crying shame what they’ve done to Dana Brooke. In NXT and during her early run on the main roster she looked like an athletic powerhouse with an arrogant streak similar to Charlotte’s. Granted, the injury to Emma derailed her career pretty bad but WWE should have seen that as an opportunity to have her stand out as a singles star. Instead they’ve saddled her with this subservient handmaiden gimmick, always at Charlotte’s beck and call. She’s so frequently humiliated on TV, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she became a new inductee of the McMahon “Kiss My Ass Club”.
Putting her as Charlotte’s right-hand woman has kept her in the spotlight, but Dana has been reduced as a potential title contender. She isn’t really in the picture at all and it will take some time to get her there now.
I know what you’re thinking: What about Nia Jax? The dominant Samoan bruiser from NXT with the hypnotic eyes has been leveling opponents left and right since emerging on Raw. The problem is that, for now, she’s best left beating up jobbers and washed-up vets like Alicia Fox. She had a decent match against Bayley for the NXT title some time ago, but she is still VERY green inside the ring. Not only that, but WWE is struggling to establish her personality, and her stiff promo work doesn’t help. Basically, Nia Jax has a long way to go. But when she’s ready, there’s no doubt she’ll be the dominant, Awesome Kong-esque figure they need her to be, and when that happens Charlotte probably won’t be champion anyway.

1. Charlotte’s a True Alpha Female
There have been many great women champions, but only a few that lasted a long time at the top. Charlotte has the potential to lead the division for years to come, similar to the way John Cena has for the men. It doesn’t matter that she’s a heel right now and people hate her. The same could’ve been said about her father at various points in his career, and look how that turned out.
The truth is that she’s on a similar path as the Nature Boy, meaning she’s a superstar that fans simply love to hate. What they will all acknowledge, though, is that Charlotte can have great matches with anybody. Already she’s got a handful of long-running feuds under her belt with Banks, Becky Lynch, and Bayley. Those won’t be going anywhere and will last as long as these women are kicking butt in the squared circle. They will undoubtedly be friends at certain points, enemies at others, but they are forever linked and Charlotte will always be at the center of it.
While she’ll never be as charismatic (or unpredictable) as her father, Charlotte’s confidence on the mic and ability to work up a crowd is why she’s stayed on top. And it’s why she can have quality feuds with whoever she is put up against. There’s a chance Charlotte will never be the most popular woman on the roster, but she doesn’t need to be. She’s the kind of consistent that you can build a brand around.
Sasha Banks and Bayley will have their time, but this is still the era of Charlotte and she should emerge victorious at Clash of Champions.
What do you think? Who should be WWE Women’s Champion when the dust settles at Clash of Champions?
