Connecticut begins the season the same way it has the last two - No. 1 in The Associated Press preseason Top 25 women's basketball poll.
UConn received 39 of the 40 first-place votes Friday from a national media panel. The Huskies have been No. 1 for 44 straight weeks, a streak dating to Feb. 18, 2008. It's the eighth time in school history UConn has held the AP's top preseason ranking.
Baylor received the other first-place vote and is second. The two teams will meet on Nov. 16 in an early showdown. Stanford, Tennessee, and Xavier rounded out the first five.
UConn has won 78 straight games and has been a unanimous choice in the poll for 35 straight weeks.
