Israel was the other country to make the shortlist of bids.
Spain hosted the men's World Cup last summer.
Spain has one of the best women's teams in the world. It won the European championship in 2013, and was runner-up in this year's world championship.

FIBA says on its website that Spain ''has past experience of hosting a leading FIBA world event.''
