Odyssey Sims scored a career-high 25 points and Brittney Griner added 15 to help No. 2 Baylor beat No. 23 Syracuse 77-43 Tuesday night.

Griner had eight blocks for the Bears a night after going without one for just the second time in her college career, but Sims was the star.

''Odyssey can shoot the basketball,'' Mulkey said. ''She got a lot of looks, particularly on ball reversal. She's just a confident kid. When you see a 2-3 zone like that, they're jamming the paint a little bit, you're going to have to make those shots.''

Iasia Hemingway led the Orange (8-1) with 10 points. Syracuse lost for the first time in 30 regular season nonconference games.

Sims made 5 of 9 3-pointers for the Bears, who shut down Clemson the night before at the Sunsplash Shootout. Syracuse plays the Tigers on Wednesday night.

Brooklyn Pope added 10 points and seven rebounds for Baylor, which shot nearly 51 percent.

''They have a lot of balance,'' Syracuse coach Quentin Hillsman said. ''In the first half we really wanted to pack the paint in and one of their shooters had 22 points, in the second half we moved out and they scored in the paint.''

Syracuse made 2 of 17 3-pointers and shot 26.5 percent overall while turning the ball over 24 times.

The Orange held Baylor without a field goal through the first four minutes of the second half. But Baylor went on a 10-2 run to go up 55-23 buffer with 12:48 remaining in regulation.

''I've always worried about the game the day before you go home for the holidays,'' Baylor coach Kim Mulkey said. ''This game was no different. You were playing a team that was ranked 23rd in the country, they're undefeated, they play in a tough league in the Big East and I was very proud of the Lady Bears tonight.''
