Jeanne Kenney scored 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting to lead No. 20 Louisiana State past Wichita State 64-56 on Monday night in Nikki Caldwell's coaching debut with the Lady Tigers.

The score was tied with 7 minutes remaining before Kenney hit two 3-pointers over the next 4 minutes to help the Lady Tigers (1-0) finish off the Shockers (1-1). It was still a four-point game in the final minute when LaSondra Barrett converted a three-point play to finally give LSU breathing room.

Barrett had 16 points for LSU, which shot 61.5 percent from the floor but took 26 fewer shots than Wichita State, due in part to 21 turnovers. LSU outrebounded the Shockers 38-31.

It was the first game at LSU for Caldwell, who took over in April for Hall of Fame coach Van Chancellor after guiding UCLA to consecutive NCAA tournament appearances.

Wichita State was led by Jessica Diamond's 16 points. Haleigh Lankster added 13.

The Shockers stayed in the game with 3-point shooting, going 11 of 37 from beyond the arc to shatter the school record for attempts. Wichita State was 7 of 22 on 3s in the first half against LSU's extended zone and trailed 35-31 at halftime.
