No. 12 Louisville women top Western Kentucky 89-67

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) Bria Smith scored 22 points with 10 rebounds and 10 assists and No. 12 Louisville held off a game Western Kentucky squad 89-67 on Tuesday.

Louisville (5-0) shot 52 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Lady Toppers 48-36. Sara Hammond had 16 points and 10 boards while Myisha Hines-Allen added 16 points and Emmonnie Henderson 14.

Western Kentucky (3-2) was led by Alexis Govan and Chastity Gooch with 20 points apiece.

Both teams came out cold and were tied at 4 nearly 4 minutes into the contest. Louisville then went on a 20-4 run, going inside to Henderson on several occasions while Smith made a couple of jumpers. Later in the quarter, Hammond scored eight straight points for the Cardinals and they built a 44-26 halftime advantage.

Louisville's lead reached 34 points in the second half before the Cardinals cruised down the stretch.
