Lady Vols guards Carter, Cooper to miss 2016-17 season

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Tennessee's backcourt has suffered two major preseason losses as Andraya Carter is bypassing her final season of eligibility and Te'a Cooper will miss the entire 2016-17 season with a knee injury.
Carter issued a statement Wednesday saying she was ending her college career to recover from the injuries that have accumulated throughout her career.
She underwent season-ending shoulder surgery in 2012-13 that resulted in a redshirt. Carter, who graduated in August 2015, said Wednesday she has ''played through everything from bumps and bruises to torn ligaments and broken bones.''
Tennessee coach Holly Warlick said Wednesday that Cooper injured her left knee while playing basketball at home.
Carter, who also graduated in August 2015, made 82 career starts. She averaged 8.6 points and 2.1 assists per game as a freshman last season.
