King helps No. 16 West Virginia women hang on versus Rebels

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) Kristina King matched her career high with 16 points and grabbed a career-best nine rebounds and No. 16 West Virginia held off Mississippi 66-61 on Sunday.
Alexis Brewer added 12 points and Tynice Martin, who came in averaging 20.1, had 10. Teana Muldrow, averaging 14.1, scored eight.
Taylor Manuel led the Rebels (6-2) with 13 points and Erika Sisk had 11. The Rebels' top two scorers coming in, Madinah Muhammad (14.7) and Shandricka Sessom (14.3), finished with four and nine points, respectively.
West Virginia (28.9) and Ole Miss (29.3) came in ranked second and third in shooting-percentage defense, however, the Mountaineers shot 53.5 percent to 32.2 for the Rebels. West Virginia made only 18 of 32 free throws and committed 25 turnovers.
West Virginia (9-0) finished the third quarter on a 6-1 spurt, with four points from King, to lead 43-37 and kept a single-digit edge till the end.
