U.S. Open final live blog, analysis: Angelique Kerber leads Karolina Pliskova

NEW YORK – Angelique Kerber is a set away from her first U.S. Open title. The No. 2 seed took the opening set 6–3 over No. 10-seed Karolina Pliskova, who made the final after beating Serena Williams in the semifinal.
Kerber, who will supplant Serena Williams as the World No. 1 on Monday, is coming off a win over Caroline Wozniacki in the semifinals and reached the final without dropping a set. Pliskova, who is riding a 12-match win streak dating back to the Western & Southern Open in early August, stunned top-seeded Serena as well as Venus Williams on her way to her first Grand Slam final. Kerber is playing in her third major final of the year and seeks her second Grand Slam title of the season, and she holds a 4-3 head-to-head advantage over her opponent. But Pliskova won their most recent meeting, just a few weeks ago in the final in Cincinnati, where Kerber had a chance to take the No. 1 ranking from Serena but faltered, losing to the 24-year-old Czech 6-3, 6-1.
Kerber is closing in on her second Grand Slam title of the year. Follow along below for live updates and analysis of the match.
