Third-seeded Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia was eliminated from the Swiss Open on Thursday, and top-seeded Roger Federer prepared for his first match in Gstaad since 2004.
Tipsarevic piled up the unforced errors, including six double-faults, to lose to Robin Haase 6-2, 6-2 in the second round.
Federer was scheduled to play 55th-ranked Daniel Brands of Germany at the clay-court event. Federer beat Brands last week in the second round in Hamburg, Germany.
Two former Swiss Open champions advanced to the quarterfinals.
