Third-seeded Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia was eliminated from the Swiss Open on Thursday, and top-seeded Roger Federer prepared for his first match in Gstaad since 2004.

Tipsarevic piled up the unforced errors, including six double-faults, to lose to Robin Haase 6-2, 6-2 in the second round.

Federer was scheduled to play 55th-ranked Daniel Brands of Germany at the clay-court event. Federer beat Brands last week in the second round in Hamburg, Germany.

Two former Swiss Open champions advanced to the quarterfinals.

Marcel Granollers of Spain, the 2011 winner, beat Federico Delbonis of Argentina 6-2, 7-5, and 2008 champion Victor Hanescu of Romania led Roberto Bautista 7-6 (2), 3-2 when the Spaniard retired with a back injury.
