VALENCIA, Spain (AP) Andy Murray eased by the error-plagued Fabio Fognini 6-2, 6-4 to reach the Valencia Open quarterfinals on Thursday.

The third-seeded Murray, who won here in 2009, will face seventh-seeded Kevin Anderson of South Africa next on the indoor hard court.

Fognini served four doubles faults and committed 20 unforced errors in a first set Murray claimed by swatting an approach shot past the Italian.

Murray broke Fognini again to move ahead 3-2 in the second set before closing out the match when Fognini committed his 36th and final unforced error by netting a return.
