King, Konta in Guangzhou Open quarters

Qualifiers Vania King of the United States and Johanna Konta of Britain made it to the Guangzhou Open quarterfinals on Wednesday.
King, a main-draw winner as a qualifier for the fourth time this year, defeated Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 to reach her first quarterfinals in 14 months.
Konta upset No. 4-seeded Shuai Peng of China 6-1, 6-3 to book her first career quarterfinal against another Chinese, Shuai Zhang, a 6-2, 6-2 winner over defending champion Su-wei Hsieh of Taiwan.
Other second-round winners included No. 2 Alize Cornet of France, No. 3 Laura Robson of Britain, and No. 8 Monica Puig from Puerto Rico.
