Kauto Star, Long Run entered for Gold Cup

Veteran champion Kauto Star and 2011 winner Long Run are set to renew their rivalry in the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March after being entered for one of the showpiece events of the British horse racing calendar.

Britain's two leading steeplechasers were among 34 entries on Wednesday for the celebrated race on March 16.

Kauto Star, which will be a 12-year-old by the time the Gold Cup comes round, produced a vintage performance in December in beating Long Run to win the King George VI Chase for an unprecedented fifth time.

A third Gold Cup success, after capturing it in 2007 and '09, would see Kauto Star become the oldest winner since 1969.

Promising 6-year-old Grands Crus has also been entered and could threaten the big two.
