How good was Serena at the French?

Published Jun. 8, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

Serena Williams positively rolled to her second French Open title and 16th career Grand Slam title, roasting opponents nearly from start to finish over the course of the tournament's weeks.

At 31 years old, she appears to be playing the best tennis of her career, or close to it. She has now won 31 straight matches and is 74-3 in the last year.

How dominant was her run to Roland Garros royalty? Let us try to help make sense of it.

She won seven matches in 8 hours, 35 minutes

That's about one hour, 13 minutes per match. If she had started her first match at the start of a typical American's work day, she would've been hoisting trophy before it was time to go home.

She lost just 29 games in seven matches

That's 4.1 games per match. She lost just one set the entire tournament and lost two or fewer games in a set 10 times. Roger Federer lost 33 games against Rafael Nadal in their 2008 Wimbledon final and 39 to Andy Roddick in their 2009 Wimbledon final.

She did this to the fifth-ranked player in the world:

She inspired a special brand of hopelessness in opponents

Her serve was unstoppable

She had the fastest serve of the tournament (124 mph). She had a tournament-high 41 aces (Sharapova was second with 24). She won the highest percentage of first-serve points (76) of anyone who played more than one match. She won the highest percentage of second-serve points (61) of anyone who played more than two. Basically, you had no shot returning against her.

It was such a comfortable cruise, she had time for a Twitter Q&A the day before the final

Oh, and she somehow still thinks she can play better
