Jarmila Groth of Australia advanced to the quarterfinals of the Hobart International on a day when rain disrupted play in this Australian Open tuneup.
Groth, seeded sixth, defeated Austrian qualifier Tamira Paszek 6-4, 7-6 (5) on Tuesday night. It was the only singles match completed at Hobart's Domain Tennis Centre.
Fourth-seeded Roberta Vinci of Italy won the first set 6-3 against Elena Baltacha of Britain before rain halted play. Olga Govortsova of Belarus was leading Peng Shuai of China 2-1.
The Australian Open starts Jan. 17.
