CLUJ,Romania (AP) Angelique Kerber fought off Simona Halep to clinch a 6-2, 6-2 win on Sunday, giving Germany a 2-1 lead over Romania on the final day of the Fed Cup World Group playoff.

It took Kerber just 67 minutes to win the reverse singles against Halep, who appeared to be struggling after playing the previous day.

''It was a tough match. Simona is a tough player. I am really happy about my performance today. The atmosphere here is amazing,'' said Kerber.

Romania's Irina-Camelia Begu will now meet Germany's Andrea Petkovic.
