French Open receives only 2 offers for TV rights

French Open organizers say they received only two offers from 10 prospective bidders for domestic television rights on Thursday and the offers were considerably below the asking price.

In a statement, the FFT said only Eurosport and France Television made offers for any of the three proposed lots.

The FFT said Eurosport's offer was ''way below'' the asking price, which reports estimated at 15 million euros ($20.3 million) for 2014-18, adding the tournament's long-time broadcaster France Television's bid was ''in total contradiction to the rules'' without expanding further.

Roland Garros tournament director Gilbert Ysern said, ''We also need to understand why the majority of candidates pulled out'' adding that ''we remain confident, convinced of Roland Garros' (television) rights.''
