France names Fed Cup team to face Russia

France captain Nicolas Escude has chosen Alize Cornet to face Russia in the first round of the Fed Cup next month.

France will play Russia at the Olympic Stadium in Moscow from Feb. 5-6.

The 83rd-ranked Cornet lost to Kim Clijsters in the third round of the Australian Open for the best showing among French women in the event. The French team also includes Julie Coin, Pauline Parmentier and Virginie Razzano.

Escude is without Aravane Rezai, who pulled out for personal reasons.

France won the Fed Cup in 1997 and 2003 and also reached the final in 2004 and 2005 but lost its two previous encounters against Russia.
