David Ferrer's streak of reaching at least the third round at 17 consecutive Grand Slam tournaments ended Wednesday at Wimbledon with a 6-7 (5), 6-0, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 loss to 118th-ranked qualifier Andrey Kuznetsov of Russia.

Two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka was also ousted on Wednesday, beaten 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 by Bojana Jovanovski in a second-round match.

American Lauren Davis defeated 12th-seeded Flavia Pennetta of Italy 6-4, 7-6 (4) Wednesday to advance to the third round of Wimbledon, equaling her best performance of her 10 Grand Slam tournaments.

The seventh-seeded Ferrer's loss was his first in the second round at a major since the 2010 Australian Open.

He made the quarterfinals at the last 10 Slams, including being the 2013 French Open runner-up.

In his other 46 career Grand Slam appearances, Ferrer only lost once to a player ranked lower than Kuznetsov -- No. 126 Kei Nishikori at the 2008 U.S. Open.

Kuznetsov, the boys' champion at Wimbledon in 2009, got to the third round of a major for the first time. It was also his first victory over a top-10 player.

No. 8 Azarenka had more winners -- 46 to 27 -- than Jovanovski and also more total points, 104-101, but wasn't able to take advantage of her break-point opportunities.

A two-time semifinalist at Wimbledon, Azarenka converted only three of 16 chances, while the Serbian player was good on four of seven opportunities.

Azarenka had been recovering from a left foot injury and had a three-month layoff ahead of the grass-court season.

The Ohio-born Davis, 20, lost in the first round of all four Grand Slam tournaments last year before advancing to the third round of the Australian Open in January.

She lost in the first round at the French Open this year, but made the quarterfinals of last week's Wimbledon tune-up on grass at Eastbourne.

Pennetta was a US Open semifinalist last year.
