Ferrer advances to Swedish quarters

Former champion David Ferrer advanced to the quarterfinals of the Swedish Open by defeating Simone Bolelli of Italy 6-4, 6-3 on Wednesday.

The top-seeded Spaniard won the tournament in 2007 and lost last year's final to local favorite Robin Soderling.

Also going through to the last eight are Jan Hajek of the Czech Republic, Estonia's Jurgen Zopp and Spain's Tommy Robredo.

Hajek beat fourth-seeded Jarkko Nieminen of Finland 6-1, 7-6 (2), Zopp defeated seventh-seeded Filippo Volandri of Italy 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, and Robredo topped Brazil's Joao Souza 6-3, 6-1 in second-round matches.

In the first round, sixth-seeded Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria knocked out Brazil's Rogerio Dutra Silva 6-1, 6-4.
