So if Novak Djokovic can hire a legend from the 1980s as a coach, why couldn't Roger Federer?
Djokovic already has announced that Boris Becker will join him as a coach for 2014. Federer, meanwhile, recently spent a week training with Stefan Edberg in Dubai. There are no plans for Edberg to expand his consultancy with Federer, but the former No. 1 from Sweden said he's open to the idea.
"It's a matter for us to find time to fit it in," Edberg told Stockholm's Svenska Dagbladets (via tennis.com). "If we can, I would be more than happy. The idea of the (training) camp was that I would give my views and come up with some feedback. He wants to try some new things."
Edberg, a six-time singles champion in Grand Slam events, said he advised Federer, a 17-time Slam champ who has won just one major title since the 2010 Australian Open, to attack more.
"I was also very flattered (Federer asked his advice), " Edberg said. "I've never really thought about coaching and if it had not been Federer doing the asking, honestly, I would not have been interested."
