MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) John Isner has given the United States a 1-0 lead in its Davis Cup World Group first-round match with a 7-6 (2), 6-2, 6-2 win Friday over Australia's Sam Groth.
American No. 2 Jack Sock plays Bernard Tomic in the next singles match on grass at Kooyong.
Isner says ''I played a great tiebreaker and had a lot of momentum from that point forward.''

On Saturday, Groth and John Peers are scheduled to play doubles against Bob and Mike Bryan, although that lineup can be changed on the morning of the match, along with reverse singles on Sunday.
There is a chance that playing captain Lleyton Hewitt, who came into the team for the ill Nick Kyrgios, could come out of retirement to replace Groth in doubles.
