Bellucci begins title defense with win

Defending champion Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil beat Filippo Volandri of Italy 6-2, 6-2 on Monday in the first round of the Movistar Open, the first clay-court tournament of the ATP season.
Bellucci converted five break-point opportunities and looked impressive while improving to 38-24 in his career on clay.
Albert Ramos-Vinolas of Spain beat Leonardo Mayer of Argentina 6-4, 6-4, and Igor Andreev of Russia edged Eduardo Schwank of Argentina 6-3, 7-6 (4). Spain's Pablo Andujar also advanced with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Peter Luczak of Australia.
In other first-round matches, Brazil's Ricardo Mello outlasted Spain's Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo 6-4, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (6), and Tommy Robredo of Spain defeated Frederico Gil of Portugal 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Fourth-seeded Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina topped Jorge Aguilar of Chile 6-3, 7-5, and Potito Starace of Italy rallied from a set down to defeat local player Paul Capdeville 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Top-seeded David Nalbandian and No. 2 Juan Monaco, both of Argentina, were scheduled to play Tuesday. Bellucci defeated Monaco in last year's final.
The Chile ATP event is the first of four on clay across Latin America, with other stops in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico.
