Australia has taken a 2-1 lead over Belgium in their Davis Cup World Group playoff after winning Saturday's doubles.

Former No.1-ranked Lleyton Hewitt combined with doubles specialist Paul Hanley to win 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 against the Belgian pair Olivier Rochus and Ruben Bemelmans.

Hewitt is scheduled to play Rochus in Sunday's reverse singles, while Australia is expected to select either Carsten Ball - who lost his opening singles - or the more experienced Peter Luczak in the other singles rubber against either of Bemelmans or Steve Darcis, who missed the opening singles through injury.

The winning nation will play in the elite World Group in 2011.
