TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) Arizona State is adding men's tennis, eight years after it dropped the sport.
Led by a $1 million donation from athletic director Ray Anderson and wife Buffie, the school said Wednesday that it has raised $5 million of the $10 million needed to sustain the program.
Arizona State fielded men's tennis teams from 1902-2008. In 2008, the program was dropped along with wrestling and men's swimming. Wrestling and men's swimming were reinstated that year through donor support.
With men's tennis, the Sun Devils will field 26 NCAA varsity sports. In the last 18 months, the Pac-12 school also elevated men's hockey to NCAA Division I and added women's lacrosse and women's triathlon.
