Kerber has already won both the Australian Open and the US Open.

She reached glory in each of her two Grand Slam victories during the 2016 WTA Tour. These titles helped propel her to a world No. 1 ranking. Kerber was also name the ITF singles women’s champion at the end of last season.

Her 2016 WTA Tour featured a tough loss to Serena Williams in the Wimbledon finals. She was one match away what would’ve been her first Wimbledon title.

Women’s tennis is experiencing a surge of new talent. Young stars are rising and many in Kerber’s era are coming into their own. She will look to stand out from the field in 2017.

Ending the season at No. 1, Kerber also came close to a WTA Finals title at the season-ending tournament. She lost in the finals to challenger Dominika Cibulkova. The loss will no doubt motivate her to start off her 2017 WTA Tour with a bang.

Melbourne will show Kerber and Williams as clear favorites to win. The real test comes after the Australian Open.

Can Kerber prove herself in the middle of the season? Her deepest run at the French Open came in 2012 when she reached the quarter-finals. She must prove herself on clay at Roland Garros. If Angelique Kerber can remain healthy, she must be considered a favorite to win at Wimbledon. Before the third Grand Slam tournament of the year, the German star also stands a good chance at the French Open if she finds a rhythm in her game during the first half of 2017.
