American Cohen advances at Baku Cup

Julia Cohen of the United States upset top-seeded Ksenia Pervak, who withdrew from the match with the score 6-4, 3-6, 3-2 in the first round of the Baku Cup.

Pervak, of Kazakhstan, was carried off court on a stretcher Tuesday after collapsing from heat exhaustion.

Second-seeded Alexandra Panova of Russia defeated Sacha Jones of Australia in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6 (7) in the WTA outdoor hard-court event at Baku Tennis Academy.

Fifth-seeded Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia defeated Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.
