The French Tennis Federation says Amelie Mauresmo has been appointed captain of France's Fed Cup team.
The former top-ranked Mauresmo, a two-time Grand Slam champion, replaces Nicolas Escude.
The FFT announced Mauresmo's appointment on its official Twitter page on Thursday. The 33-year-old Mauresmo won 25 career titles, including the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2006. She reached the Australian Open final in 1999 and was also a two-time U.S. Open semifinalist, and an Olympic silver medalist in 2004.
During his time as captain, Escude clashed with Marion Bartoli, France's highest-ranked player, and left her off the team because of her independent coaching setup with her father.
