Florian Mayer of Germany has withdrawn from the men's singles draw at the Australian Open with a hip strain.
The International Tennis Federation said Sunday that the 20th-seeded Mayer would be replaced by South Africa's Rik de Voest, who got the main draw spot after a lottery involving the four highest-ranked players who lost in qualifying.
De Voest will play Lu Yen-hsun of Taiwan in the first round Monday on Court 13 at Melbourne Park.
