Zubizarreta appointed Barcelona technical director

Former Spain goalkeeper Andoni Zubizarreta has been appointed technical director at Barcelona football club.
The 48-year-old Zubizarreta, a member of Barcelona's 1992 European Cup team, replaces Txiki Begiristain in charge of the club's professional department, the Barcelona website announced Friday. He will be closely involved in recruitment.
Zubizarreta, who also played for Athletic Bilbao and Valencia, is Spain's most-capped international with 126 appearances.
Barcelona also said its former midfielder Guillermo Amor is the club's new youth teams director.
Barcelona won the Spanish league last season under coach Pep Guardiola.
Zubizarreta showed his good form as recently as July 2007 when, as goalkeeper for a World XI of mostly retired soccer stars in a match to celebrate former South African president Nelson Mandela's 89th birthday, he waged an entertaining duel with striker Samuel Eto'o, denying the Cameroonian three times.
