Javier Aguirre is set for a third coaching stint in the Spanish league after Zaragoza says it reached an agreement with the Mexican to lead the last-place team.

Aguirre, who previously coached Atletico Madrid and Osasuna before taking over the Mexico job more recently, replaces Jose Aurelio Gay.

Gay was fired on Thursday as struggling Zaragoza has only seven points from 11 games. Gay replaced Marcelino Garcia last December and kept Zaragoza in topflight football on the last day.

Aguirre led Mexico at this year's World Cup, where it exited the round of 16 to Argentina.
