Stoke City chairman Peter Coates has warned Premier League managers that they now face a much shorter time in jobs than ever before.
The words from Coates may come as a surprise to Mark Hughes, who replaced Tony Pulis as Stoke manager earlier this week.
Coates said: "We've had seven years with Tony which is quite a long time in modern football. The game is changing and there is a tendency for managers to be at clubs for shorter periods.
"There will be no more Alex Ferguson and even David Moyes with his long period at Everton. But, I believe that you have to give managers a chance. It's a tough job but they get well paid. That goes with the job."
Hughes accepted the job at Stoke City six months after being sacked by Queens Park Rangers.
Goalkeeper Simpson and midfielder Gosset, both 18, join fellow youngsters Chris Sutherland and Joe Cooper in signing their first pro deals.
Simpson has yet to make a competitive appearance for the Latics, although he has played in first-team friendlies.
Gosset had a whirlwind end to the 2012/13 campaign. Shortly after returning from a fractured kneecap he found himself in the first team, making his debut in the penultimate match of the season at Shrewsbury and then starting the final game at Leyton Orient.
