Yates blasts skipper Bennett

Cheltenham boss Mark Yates criticised his captain Alan Bennett for a late red card in the 2-2 home draw with Fleetwood.

Junior Brown's last-gasp strike earned the Football League newcomers a point in stoppage time before centre-half Bennett retaliated to some provocation from Jamie McGuire, shoving the Town midfielder and earning a dismissal that will keep him out of the next three matches.

"He was sent off for pushing their lad in the chest and he fell for the old trick and he (McGuire) was excellent for them," Yates said.

"It's unacceptable and unprofessional. I don't normally criticise my players, but I am fuming at that more than the late goal to be honest.

"I will miss my captain for the next three games now. I wanted to rest people with one or two knocks, but Benno wouldn't have been one of them. Their lad was in his face after the goal - so flipping what. I am very angry with him."

David Ball gave Fleetwood the half-time lead before goals from Jeff Goulding and Sido Jombati in the space of 10 second half minutes turned the game on its head. Brown prodded in from close range deep into stoppage time before Bennett was then sent off.
