World Cup journalist dies after car falls off a cliff in Brazil

SAO PAULO
Brazilian authorities say a car carrying three Argentine journalists covering the World Cup lost control and fell off a cliff, killing one and injuring the other two.
The fire department of the town of Oliveira says 26-year-old Maria Soledad Fernandez was thrown out of the vehicle and died afterward. Two men in the car were injured in the accident early Wednesday and taken to a nearby hospital.
The news team was traveling from Sao Paulo, where the Argentine team played against the Swiss on Tuesday beating them 1-0.
A news release from the fire department said the three journalists apparently worked for DirecTV Sports because officials found the news gear with that logo. Police are investigating what caused the accident.
The Argentine team canceled a press conference Wednesday while mourning Fernandez, the daughter of a prominent Argentine journalist.
"The players are extremely saddened by this death because they also feel affected as they are also children and they also have children themselves," Argentina Football Association General Secretary Juan Carlos Crespi told reporters.
"She was much loved."
