Willian double pushes Corinthians past Flu

Striker Willian scored two first-half goals as Corinthians defeated defending champion Fluminense on Sunday to close in on the top spot in the Brazilian league standings.

Corinthians is now only two points behind Sao Paulo, which beat Gremio 3-1 at home on Saturday to become the only team to start the tournament with four straight victories.

Willian scored with a header in the 6th minute and a penalty kick in the 30th.

Fluminense dropped to 10th place in the 20-team standings.

In other matches, Palmeiras drew 2-2 with Internacional in Porto Alegre, while Ronaldinho's Flamengo drew 1-1 with second-to-last-place Atletico Paranaense in Curitiba.
