Wigan won at home in the Premier League for only the second time this season, a 2-0 victory over Stoke on Saturday further boosting the club's chances of avoiding relegation.
Antolin Alcaraz put the hosts ahead with a 54th-minute header before Victor Moses made the win safe in the third minute of injury time.
After a surprise 2-1 win at Liverpool last week, Wigan won back-to-back league matches for the first time this season and took its run to one defeat in eight games.
Roberto Martinez's side stayed second from bottom but is level on points with QPR and Blackburn above them, and one point behind 16th-placed Bolton.
