The England Under-21 striker was stretchered off early in the Wearsiders' 1-0 defeat to Manchester United. Initially it was feared the teenager had suffered ligament damage, but scans came back clear. A statement on the Sunderland website read: "Further investigations have shown that Connor Wickham has not suffered any serious damage to his knee. "The player has embarked on a rehabilitation programme as he recovers from the injury."
