What Liverpool need in the January window

What do Liverpool need to do in order to improve their squad during the transfer window?
Since joining Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp has been amazed by the fan’s obsession with making transfers. Several times he’s blasted the way fans demand players are brought, and he’s made it clear he’ll buy whenever he wants too. He truly is a strong believer in developing talent over buying it.
That being said, it appears that FSG are giving him the money if he wishes to use it. So what can Jurgen Klopp do in January to improve the solid start he’s made already?
First up I think we need to address the left-back situation. I’m slightly worried Klopp won’t actually sign a player in that position (again). He had time to sign somebody in the Summer, but obviously felt like he didn’t need too.
With James Milner likely to remain our left-back, we then also have Alberto Moreno and Joe Gomez who are decent in that position. Gomez isn’t fit and will take time to return, but he’s also naturally a centre-back. Moreno is a whole other mess, which is discussed here.
I think signing a quality left-back to take over the first team spot would be a wise move, but again we do have options if Klopp thinks otherwise. It all depends on his faith in Moreno – it seems.
In regards to other positions, I think we’d all love a 25+ goals a season striker. Currently we’re blessed with our talent in that position, so this won’t happen, but a guy can dream.
I actually think signing promising players to replenish our bench/reserves would be wise. That way Klopp builds a foundation for the future and can rotate to stronger sides.
A Deep Midfielder?
I still believe a quality defensive midfielder should be key. With Jordan Henderson and Emre Can currently impressing, many might have forgotten our troubles. A deeper midfielder that defends well and creates with clever passing would be brilliant. It’s one of the few areas we’re lacking in, and the depth would help.
Another Centre-back?
With Mamadou Sakho falling out of favour, we’re left with Ragnar Klavan, Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip as our strongest central defenders. Adding another quality player to this position wouldn’t be an awful move either.
All in all, I think Klopp will avoid a busy window if his team keeps performing as it currently is. Development > Transfers.
