West Ham manager Avram Grant has been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association for criticizing a referee after his side's defeat in an FA Cup quarterfinal.

Grant was unhappy with the display of match official Mike Jones in West Ham's 2-1 loss to Stoke at Britannia Stadium on Sunday.

The Israeli coach was particularly upset that his team wasn't awarded a penalty in the second half, claiming that Jones ''maybe ... felt a little bit guilty'' after allowing the Hammers a disputed equalizer scored by Frederic Piquionne before halftime.

A statement released by the FA on Wednesday says Grant has until Monday to respond to the charge.
