Weather scuppers Mansare move

The Guinea international had been due to link up with the Molineux club at the start of this week. But the weather has meant it would have been impossible for boss Mick McCarthy to fully assess his potential with the players unable to train outside all week. And hopes of 28-year-old featuring in the midweek reserve clash with West Ham would also have been dashed with the game falling victim to the weather. Mansare, who has 18 months to run of his Toulouse contract, is keen to try and engineer a move to England and as a result is not featuring for his country in the African Nations Cup. The former Montpellier player may have another chance to impress McCarthy, who wants to strengthen his squad this month, when the weather improves. But claims by the players' representatives earlier in the week that a deal was in place for Mansare to move to Molineux on loan - with a view to a permanent deal in the summer - appear to be premature. Mansare has made 126 appearances for Toulouse and has featured for them in the UEFA Cup and Champions League. Aston Villa midfielder Craig Gardner, Sheffield United central defender Matthew Kilgallon and Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson remain on McCarthy's radar as possible January targets.
